So I know I’m SUPER late for a May ipsy bag review, but whatever. I got it, I tried it, and now I’m giving you my first impressions, with in depth reviews on select products to come later. This month, my bag contained benefit’s Gimme Brow, it Cosmetics Superhero Mascara, Caked Makeup’s Lip Fondant in Low Key, Briogeo’s Roscaro Milk, and MANNAKADAR Beauty’s Bronzer Highlighter.
For those who have been living under a rock, ipsy is a monthly makeup/skincare subscription. Basically, you pay $10, and each month you get sent a cute little bag with 5 products based on your preferences. You can review the products on the ipsy app to give feedback and help ipsy get better at selecting products for your future bags. If you want to sign up, I have a handy dandy referral link HERE!
This month’s bag is clear and decorated with cute little ice cream cones and popsicles. Ipsy definitely went with the warm weather vibe with this bag, which I can appreciate, although I’m not a huge fan of the design overall. Honestly, it looks like something my 9 year old cousin would design. I guess I do like the idea of having a see-through bag – makes it easy to see what is in there if you use it while travelling.
benefit Gimme Brow Brow-Volumizing Fiber Gel
How it works: Let me say this is my first time using a colored brow gel. It definitely added color and definition to my brows, but if you have super light brows it may be too dark (or not dark enough if you have black hair). However, I wasn’t able to shape/define my brows in the way that I wanted because the brush works by adding product onto your existing brow hairs. My brows are fairly short and I usually draw on small strokes of hair past the ends to elongate them, because I pierced my eyebrow when my mom told me not to and it scarred and hair doesn’t grow there anymore. I had difficulty placing the product where I wanted it to go. Without using another product such as a brow pencil, my brows don’t look terrible but they don’t look stellar either. Due to my inexperience with this type of product, I’m going to label this as “Needs more time to review.” I’ll do a full review of the product once I’ve had time to play with it and figure it out.
it Cosmetics Superhero Mascara
How it works: Okay, I’m in love. In my experience, the mascaras I’ve gotten in my ipsy bags have been really hit or miss. This is a definite hit. Super easy application, my lashes didn’t stick together or clump, and not a lash was missed. My lashes look long and beautiful, but not fake. We’re going to label this one definitely would buy.
Briogeo Roscaro Milk – Reparative Leave-in Conditioning Spray
How it works: The packaging states that the product should be used on damp hair, brushed through, and left in. My hair was dry when I opened my ipsy bag and I couldn’t resist trying it right away so I didn’t follow the rules. First off, my hair smells amazing right now, and it’s super soft. That being said, I don’t notice too much difference from any off brand drug store leave-in conditioners I’ve used. I’m curious to see if there’s a difference when I use it on damp hair after a shower. We’ll label this one might buy.
MANNAKADAR Beauty Bronzer Highlighter
How it works: I’m torn. The highlighter is gorgeous. Gorgeous color, gorgeous everything. The bronzer, however, I am not sold on. The color is nice, although if you have fair skin, you’ll need to be careful not to go too heavy with this. I had a difficult time blending the bronzer and it ultimately looks patchy on my face. I’ll probably continue to use this, but once it’s gone I likely would not buy.
Caked Makeup Lip Fondant in Low Key
How it works: I am happily surprised to find that this product has a matte finish. Low Key is a neat pinky-mauve-red color that I can see working well for any time of the year. The applicator gave me nice crisp lines without the need of a lip liner. I typically use a lip balm before putting on any lip products, but wanted to see how this went on without a balm first – turns out it does pretty well! My lips feel hydrated, which is always up in the air when it comes to matte lip products. I’m going to say I would buy.
