Over the last year, I’ve upped my couponing game and built myself a nice stockpile of items that I’ve purchased for free or close-to-free with coupons. Saving so much money on groceries has given me the ability to use those savings to go out to eat on occasion, but some days I like to use only items I’ve bought with coupons to eat, just to see how cheap it can be to eat off of coupon deals.
I’ve heard some people say that “couponing just gets you junk,” so I’d like to dispel that myth. Today, with a bit of planning, I’ll be able to eat an entire days worth of fairly healthy meals and snacks for just $2. Let’s look at the breakdown:
Egg Sandwich with Turkey Bacon.
Egg – 6 cents (bought 18 for 99 cents)
English Muffin – 26 cents (Bought 3 6-packs @$4.69, Buy 1, Get 2 Free sale)
Turkey Bacon – Free after coupons
Sabra Guacamole and Tortillas To-Go – Free with Stop & Shop app last week.
Burrito and Salad.
Evol. Bean, Rice, and Cheddar Burrito – 67 cents (On sale for $1.67, used $1 coupon)
Baby Spinach and Spring Mix – 50 cents (on sale for $2.50, used $2 coupon on Stop & Shop app).
Ken’s Dressing – Free after coupons
Croutons – Free after coupons
Cucumber from my mom’s garden – Free 🙂
Dole Diced Peaches Fruit Cup – (4-pack on sale for $1.67, used 75 cent coupon that Stop & Shop doubled the value of).
2 Chicken Drumsticks – 48 cents (Bought pack of 6 on clearance for $1.44)
More of salad from lunch – No additional cost
Total for the day: $2.01
TWO DOLLARS! That’s it! Granted, it took some time to be able to build up my stockpile, and each of these deals were purchased at different times. However, over time couponing can be a total life changer. With amount of frozen meat and pasta alone that we’ve stocked up on, the only things I really NEED to buy each week and fresh veggies and milk. Our weekly grocery budget has gone from over $100, to under $20 in a matter of a year.
