The month may be almost over, but I’ve finally got it: my August ipsy bag! Woohoo!
For beauty lovers who have been living under a rock, ipsy is a monthly makeup/skincare subscription. Basically, you pay $10, and each month you get sent a cute little bag with 5 products based on your preferences. You can review the products on the ipsy app to give feedback and help ipsy get better at selecting products for your future bags. If you want to sign up, I have a handy dandy referral link HERE!
Here’s a quick peek at the bag and the products I received, as well as my first impressions.
Well, this month is a step up from the egg-yolk-from-my-nightmares of last month’s ipsy bag. Ipsy seems to have capitalized on the “Good Vibes Only” trend, but I could have done without the cliche slogan. I love the ombre, and gold tassle, but the writing is a bit much. Not the worst, but also no where near my favorite ipsy bag.
Aurora Pro Cover-Up Concealer in Balmy Beige (49)
How it works: I get so excited every time I receive a concealer in my ipsy bag, because concealer is something I use every day and it is one of the few makeup products I end up using until the tube is entirely empty. I am pretty picky when it comes to concealer formulas though, and unfortunately this Aurora concealer did not pass my test. I gave it so many shots – I tried to cover a red blemish I currently have on my face, some freckles, discoloration, dark circles.. nothing. I used my finger, a brush, and a beauty blender – nothing really worked. The product also left a sort of tacky feel on my skin as well. Definitely not a winner.
Seraphine Botanicals Liquid Coal Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
How it works: I’m pretty impressed with this liner – nice sharp, clean lines in a deep black color. The product is easy to hold and handle. However, the “waterproof” label should be removed – with a drop of water from the sink and one swipe, the product easily came off. All in all, a great eyeliner, but not a great waterproof product.
Promise Organic Nourishing Coconut Milk Facial Lotion with Hibiscus
How it works: I’m disappointed that I received a product meant for “Normal to Combination Skin” when my skin is beyond dry, so keep in mind that this review is coming from someone who is NOT included in the target audience for this product. However, I will say that I am obsessed with the smell of this lotion – it’s sweet and tropical. I like that the lotion soaks into my skin pretty quickly and doesn’t have a greasy or tacky feel to it. I did find that about 30 minutes after applying, my skin felt like it needed more moisture. Get it here.
eyeko Black Magic Mascara Drama & Curl
How it works: First off, the packaging is different and not necessarily in a good way. It’s a tube, and all the product is settled at the bottom, away from the wand. Because of this, I had a difficult time getting product on the entire wand – rather than mostly just at one end, which made an even application difficult. When applying, I did notice clumps on the first sweeps of my lashes, but fortunately I was able to easily remove the clumps with a second brush of the wand. This mascara definitely added length to my lashes, but didn’t make them appear full or bold as I would expect from a mascara with “drama” in the title. Overall, a decent mascara – I suppose it’s nice to have a mascara with a natural, lengthening feel, as opposed to all the volumizing ones in my collection. Get it here.
firma Angled Contour Brush (103)
How it works: We have a winner! I was beginning to feel disappointed with this month’s bag, but this firma brush saved the day! The brush is soft and feels nice on your skin, and picks up/deposits product really well. I tried it out as a placement brush for my bronzer as well as a blending brush, and was happy with the results.
